Voor zijn band Mephiti kan Bogaerts rekenen op gitaristen Bert Cools en Ruben Machtelinckx, twee exponenten van een generatie snarenhelden die net iets verder kijkt dan de klassieke, op de blues voortbordurende voorbeelden. Het scherpere spel van Cools, op semiakoestische en elektrische gitaar, en het bedachtzame, intussen uit de duizenden te herkennen spel van Machtelinckx (elektrisch), vormen een stroom van dromerige, lyrische klanken, met nu en dan eens een stevige uitschieter. Aangevuld met de kanklės van de Lithouwse Indrė wordt het al helemaal een rijkgeschakeerde weelde, die regelmatig folktradities laat doorschemeren. Het ruisende spel van drummer Stijn Cools zorgt voor een eigenzinnig randje.

For his band Mephiti, Bogaerts can depend on guitarists Bert Cools and Ruben Machtelinckx, two exponents of a generation of string adepts who have worked themselves beyond the classic examples that elaborate on the blues. The sharpness of Bert Cools, on semi-acoustic and electric guitar, and the thoughtful and recognizable playing of Machtelinckx (electric) form a stream of dreamy, lyrical sounds, with the occasional strong outburst. Complemented with the klanklės handled by Lithuanian musician Indrė Jurgelevičiūtė, it becomes a thick varied abundance, where regularly hints of folk traditions pour through. The rustling game of drummer Stijn Cools gives it all a wayward edge.

Had everyone had warning of what to expect? "Opener" set the scene for those unsure newcomers. "Long Way Home" - an apt title: what a break. Idris wanders off leaving Leon, Emre and Satin to find the way... with a joyful reunion at the end. The journeys continue through the rest of the show - Leon constantly providing that anchor around which the wonder this world - and, of course, Other Worlds - fly at their own pace. You may know of Janek Gwizdala - if not Hidden Treasures gives hints. Peter Jones
