Symphony for 2 Little Boys is the second album by Belgian project De Groote-Faes Duo. Featuring New York based jazz legend Dave Douglas on trumpet, the instrumental duo explores an ever widening universe of highly personal sounds. Using classical double bass and often raw electric guitar, the atmospheres shift from energetic and wild jazz to delicate intimacy and classic beauty, echoes of world and ethnic music, into trippy electronic sound manipulation, instigated and encouraged by producer Nicolas Rombouts.

01 Le Métropolitain (©Faes)
Urban atmosphere, vaguely within a frame of contemporary classical music and dangerously rocking jazz. An ungraspable and virtuoso theme and improvisations driven by sub-octave bass and wild sixties fuzz guitar.

02 Bastien (©De Groote)
Originally imagined as a tribute to Sebastian Bach, the original mood of this composition has completely capsized into a spacious guitar melody over an intricate bowed bass rhythm.

03 Fermeture (ft Dave Douglas) (©Faes)
Inspired heavily by the John Zorn/Marc Ribot/Dave Douglas Masada recordings. Delivering the theme and solo on muted trumpet, Mr Douglas remembers : 'we called this type of music falafel jazz'…

04 La valse du coeur brisé (©Faes)
Bluesy intro turning into a light and tender jazz waltz with bouncy and playful improvisations. A more traditional jazz sound spectrum, reminiscent of En Route, De Groote-Faes Duo's 2014 debut album.

05 Manifesto (ft Dave Douglas) (©Faes)
Uptempo klezmer theme with a romantic classical bridge. Adventurous trumpet solo and strangely appropriate funky guitar improvisation.

06 La Bataille (©De Groote)
A dramatic scream, rough and searching, wild sound effects on both instruments, improvised around an expressive Middle Eastern/blues melody line.

07 de eenzame treurwilg (©Faes)
Open and gloomy, as a lonely weeping willow. Ending with the double bass bowing an impressive low c note, deeper then the bottom of a dark lake.

08 Les Lunes (©Faes)
Displaying an otherworldly view on a familiar Belgian horizon under two moons. Extra electronics and sound effects by straight edge producer Nicolas Rombouts.

09 Endormi (ft Dave Douglas) (©De Groote)
Sweet little nightmares and unfamiliar warm feelings. Three little boys dozing off quietly and disciplined, the dream gets out of hand quickly. Free associating visions of bluesy trumpet and guitar over an unpredictable bouncing rhythm.

10 Cascamorras Blues (©Faes)
Epic symphony, telling classic tales making use of new languages. A wild intro, bowed bass theme, virtuoso plucked bass solo, funky guitar chords, Spanish melancholy and surprising conclusion.

In een aanhoudende intense samenwerking ontwikkelen Bruno De Groote en Ben Faes zich verder in een hoogstpersoonlijke instrumentale klankwereld op het kruispunt van traditie en experiment, klassiek gestreken contrabas en elektrische gitaar, in een uniek, niet-in-een-genre-te-vangen universum waarin jazz, rock, wereldmuziek, impro, klassiek en ambient elkaar symbiotisch omarmen.

Symphony for 2 Little Boys combineert pure klassieke schoonheid met rauwe roots en elektronisch bewerkte sounds, extra in de verf gezet door producer Nicolas Rombouts. Als kers op de taart werkte het duo voor enkele nummers met legendarische trompettist Dave Douglas. Two little boys play their Symphony!
